Siting high above the bluff overlooking Lake Washington and Mt. Rainier is this vintage courtyard house designed by architect William J. Bain in 1962. The current owners are looking to add more real estate for their young expanding family.
Few options were being explored with the notion to take advantage of the expansive view and to preserve the original courtyard. The option "Panorama" was chosen for its maximum exposure and vantage towards the lake.
A new second story was added on the east wing of the existing building with extensive remodeling of the basement and the first floor. A low shed roof opens up towards the lake side and covers the new structure with exposed glue-laminated wood rafters and soffit in respect to Pacific Northwest vernacular architectural tradition.
