Tsai Residence Addition

This addition is for a regular visiting parent of the owner who stays for several months of the year. For the remaining time, the unit can be used for short termed homestay rental. Therefore, this addition has to be functionally and physically independent from the main house with the option to connect if needed.

With a limited budget and a small expandable site area, the design tries to maximize spatial openness with a sunken central living space covered with a high ceiling. A large "window wall" at the far end creates a pictorial connection with the landscape beyond and brings in natural light. An open wall between living and dining spaces further enhances the open feel.
